Abia 2027: Olugu Kalu Ugba (Isi Bu Mba) Declares Governorship Ambition, Secures Strong PDP Backing


A frontline chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Barr. Chief Olugu Kalu Ugba (Isibu Bu Mba) , has formally declared his intention to contest the Abia State governorship election in 2027.
Ugba made his declaration on Monday at his residence in Umuahia, where he hosted key party leaders and stakeholders from across the three senatorial zones of the state. In his address, he pledged to provide purposeful leadership and called for unity and support from party faithful to actualize his ambition.

“I will lead from the front, but I cannot do it alone. I need the collective support of our great party,” Ugba stated.
He also reflected on his experience in governance, particularlyz his role as Deputy Chief of Staff in a past administration, noting that the exposure has prepared him for the task ahead. He assured party leaders that if entrusted with the PDP ticket, he would not disappoint the party or the people of Abia State.
In their separate remarks, party stakeholders expressed confidence in Ugba’s candidacy and reaffirmed the PDP’se readiness to reclaim political dominance in the state.
Speaking on behalf of party elders, Chief Obinna Nwachukwu dismissed claims that the PDP is no longer viable, insisting that the party remains strong and capable of producing winning candidates. He urged members to stay committed and resist external pressures.
From Abia North, Chief Ukwu Rocks Emma commended Ugba’s courage, assuring him of the zone’s full support while noting that his declaration has countered narratives suggesting the PDP would struggle to field candidates.
Representing Abia Central, Hon. Bob Ogu praised Ugba’s integrity, energy, and track record, emphasizing the achievements recorded during previous PDP administrations and expressing optimism about the party’s resurgence.
For Abia South, Hon. Cherechi Nwogu pledged total support from the zone, assuring that party members would work collectively to ensure victory in 2027.
The State Youth Leader, Hon. Ugwumba Adiele, stressed the importance of fairness and equity in the party’s processes, warning against a repeat of past internal challenges. He pledged the support of all 17 youth leaders across the state.
Similarly, the state’s women leaders, led by Mrs. Blessing Nwahaiwe, offered prayers for Ugba, seeking divine guidance and success in his political journey.
Grassroots mobilization also featured prominently, with Chief Chidi Agbawo, speaking on behalf of the 17 PDP Local Government secretaries, promising robust support and mobilization efforts.
PDP Chairmen across the LGAs, represented by Barr. Prince Emeke Onyenso, commended Ugba’s consistency and dedication to the party, assuring him of their backing in his quest to secure the PDP ticket.
Adding a regional perspective, Mr. Uchenna Nnochiri, President of Ohafia Youth, called on the PDP to consider zoning the governorship ticket to Ohafia, expressing confidence that the area would deliver victory if given the opportunity.
With endorsements pouring in from party leaders, youths, women, and grassroots structures, Ugba’s declaration signals the early build-up of political momentum within the PDP as preparations for the 2027 governorship election gather pace in Abia State.
