South-East Ex-Governors Unite, Back Regional Growth, Commend FG on Roads
Former governors from the South-East region have formed a new alliance to support regional development and strengthen collaboration across states.
The former governors, who met under the aegis of the Forum of Former South-East Governors, held their inaugural meeting in Enugu, bringing together key figures including Martin Elechi, Chris Ngige, Sullivan Chime, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, David Umahi, and Okezie Ikpeazu.
The forum, structured as a non-partisan platform, resolved to work with serving governors to drive holistic development across the region. Members said the South-East’s pressing challenges, economic stagnation, infrastructure gaps, and political marginalization, demand unity of purpose rather than rivalry.
They pledged to deploy their experience and networks to influence policy direction, support development initiatives, and promote sustainable economic growth.
Beyond the region, the group also signalled plans to build strategic economic and political partnerships with other parts of the country, aimed at repositioning the South-East within the national framework.
The former governors further acknowledged ongoing Federal Government interventions in critical infrastructure. They specifically commended key road projects, including the Enugu–Aba–Port Harcourt corridor, Enugu–Onitsha road, Owerri–Umuika axis, and the Umuahia–Ikot Ekpene road.
They described the projects as vital economic lifelines capable of boosting trade, improving mobility, and deepening regional integration if completed and sustained.
