Insecurity: Mayor Obingwa Task Traditional Rulers to Partner with the Govt. in Fishing Out Criminals in their Domain
Don’t panic when you see military on patrol
Dr. Eric Egwuibe, the Mayor of Obingwa Local Government, has assured the people of Obingwa not to panic over the routing patrol of security agencies in their area. The Mayor stated this while addressing traditional rulers at the council headquarters. In his remarks, he expressed sadness about the brutal killing of soldiers by unknown individuals. He offered condolences to the Nigerian military and the families of the deceased soldiers, emphasizing that the killed personnel were our sons and brothers. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the security situation in the area and to assure the military that those responsible for the attack would be brought to justice. He also called for a thorough investigation to prevent the wrongful punishment of innocent people.
Dr. Egwuibe highlighted the efforts of the Governor in capturing the criminals and stressed the importance of collaboration between traditional leaders, the government, and the military to ensure the apprehension of the perpetrators. He mentioned that without security, investors would not be willing to invest in the area.
Dr. Pastor Caleb Ajagba, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, who was present in the meeting strongly criticized the killings of military personnel at Obikabia junction in Aba North LGA. He emphasized the importance of security for the prosperity of Aba and urged everyone to be vigilant and cooperate with security agencies to identify those responsible for the attacks. Ajagba also lauded the efforts of security agencies and encouraged community leaders to help root out wrongdoers.
In his speech, the Commanding officer of the 144 Battalion of the Nigerian Army, Major General Hassan Biu expressed appreciation for the timely meeting and mentioned the relative peace experienced in Aba until recent unfortunate attacks on officers. He acknowledged the tension in the area but assured that their routine duties were being carried out and utilizing a non-kinetic approach in Aba.
Bui noted that individuals have been profiled and investigated, with most being released except those with connections to the perpetrators. He urged the community to provide credible information to assist in apprehending the criminals, ensuring that the identity of whistle-blowers will be protected. The pledge is to make Aba a safe place for all.
Speaking, the Chairman of Obingwa Traditional Rulers Council, Eze Adolphus Abakwue, Eze Chinyere Nwachukwu of the Ndiakata community, Eze O. J. Ananaba of Umuokohia Community, and other stakeholders condemned the dastardly act and reiterated their commitment tackling insecurity in their domains. Eze O.J Ananaba expressed gratitude to the military high command and emphasized that the incident took place in Aba North LGA, not Obingwa as previously believed. He reassured the military and State of their commitment to provide all necessary assistance to guarantee justice is served
The representative of DPO Uhuru Ishimiri, and her counterpart, the Division Officer of Civil Defence, the DSS, the Homeland Security and Community Policing officer, and other stakeholders of the council were all in attendance.
A moment of silence was observed in honor of the fallen soldiers.
