Aba-Ikot Ekpene Road: Agalaba People’s Forum Urge FG through their Reps to Abate Death Toll on the Road.

A COMMUNIQUE ISSUED BY THE EXECUTIVE AND MEMBERS OF AGALABA PEOPLES FORUM UPON AN INSPECTION OF THE ONGOING RECONSTRUCTION OF THE OHANZE – OPOBO JUNCTION AXIS OF THE ABA – IKOT EKPENE ROAD CUM REPORT OF RECKLESS DRIVING AND INCESSANT KILLING OF INDIGENS/ROAD USERS BY MOTORISTS.

Consequent upon an inspection of the ongoing reconstruction of Ohanze – Opobo Junction axis of the Aba – Ikot Ekpene Road and Report of Reckless Driving and Incessant Killing of Indigens/ Road Users by Motorists; Rising from an Important Emergency Meeting of Agalaba Peoples Forum with Transport Unions within Opobo Junction on Saturday, 25th May, 2024 at La’mour Opobo Junction; hence, the Executive and Members of Agalaba Peoples Forum States as follows:

1. Agalaba Peoples Forum and Entire People of Abia State thank the Federal Government of Nigeria for the Reconstruction of Aba – Ikot Ekpene Federal Highway.
2. Motorists plying Aba – Ikot Ekpene Road should reduce Over Speeding and Reckless Driving which leads to Incessant Killing of Indigens/ Road Users.
3. Federal Government should pay Financial Compensation on the Properties within Ohanze – Opobo Junction to enable the Construction Company widen the road for a Dual Carriageway in future.
4. The Federal Ministry of Works should direct the Contractor, Chinese General Group of Company ( CGGC) to Demarcate the Ohanze to Opobo Junction axis of the Road since the Dualization was not achieved, to curb the Incessant Killing of Indigens/ Road Users.
5. The Federal Ministry of Works should Approve the Dualization of Aba – Ikot Ekpene Expressway against the present One Lane of 40 Years ago from Ohanze to Opobo Junction axis of the Road, which is against the wishes of the people of Abia State.
6. We also call on the Governor of Abia State through the Local Government Chairman of Obingwa to manage the abnormal driving culture of the Okada Riders especially by evading them from Opobo Junction to Ukpakiri junction for Intra LGA Riders and Onicha Ngwa axis for Inter State Riders for the precious lives of Nigerian Citizens as the Road becomes more busy.
7. Finally, the Elected Representatives; Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, Hon. Munachi Alozie, Hon. Solomon Akpulonu and Hon. Erondu Junior Erondu should partner with the people of Obingwa LGA to achieve these interest, hence, Completion of the Dualization and Demarcating of the Ohanze to Opobo Junction axis of the Aba – Ikot Ekpene Federal Highway to avoid more accidents and death.
