Anambra Assembly Moves Against Indiscriminate Road Bumps

The 8th Anambra State House of Assembly led by the Rt. Hon. Speaker, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Nkem Udeze has taken a decisive step to address the growing menace of indiscriminate and unapproved road bumps across the state.
In a motion jointly sponsored by members and led in debate by the Majority Leader, Hon. Engr. Sir (Dr.) Ikenna Sylvester Ofodeme, representing Ekwusigo Constituency, the House called on Governor Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo , CFR to direct the Ministry of Transport and the Managing Director of the Anambra Road Traffic Management Agency (ARTMA) to ensure the removal of all unapproved speed bumps constructed with non-compatible materials on asphalted roads.
Speaking passionately on the floor, Hon. Ofodeme highlighted that while speed bumps are meant to enhance safety, many of the ones currently dotting Anambra roads were erected without due approval, professional design, or compliance with asphalt standards. According to him, these illegal structures:
* Weaken the structural integrity of state-funded roads.
* Cause cracks, potholes, and early deterioration of road infrastructure.
* Waste scarce government resources.
* Endanger motorists, commuters, and host communities.
The House reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives, safeguarding investments in infrastructure, and ensuring compliance with modern engineering standards.
With this motion, the Assembly has once again demonstrated its role as a people-focused legislature that works in synergy with the executive arm of government to build safer, stronger, and more durable roads for Ndi Anambra.
