Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has announced that the period of hardship is over in Abia as he revealed plans to set up an Independent Power Project (IPP) at Abia State University (ABSU) in Uturu. The project is expected to produce at least 10 megawatts of electricity to benefit both the university and the Uturu community.
The Governor made this announcement at a grand civic reception in his honor at Isuikwuato High School, where he also welcomed Member of the Isuikwuato State Constituency, Hon. Lucky Nwaeke Johnson, Mrs. Onyinye Rufus Obi, and others to the Labour Party.
“The era of darkness is past. When light shines, darkness disappears. This initiative will not only support the University but will also energize the whole Uturu community,” Governor Otti stated.
He emphasized that the state’s development will encompass more than just electricity, addressing improvements in roads and other essential sectors as well. He mentioned the recent signing of the Abia State Electricity Law, which grants the state the authority to establish renewable and integrated power systems without needing federal permission.
“The inauguration of the Abia State Electricity Regulatory Agency will happen soon. A resident, an experienced professional who has worked in Canada, will be returning to lead this initiative,” the Governor shared.
On the topic of road infrastructure, Otti assured that the construction of Ezima Road and others would commence shortly. He acknowledged the challenges of mending a state that has endured years of decline but reassured the community that significant advancements are underway.
“When we took office, we didn’t start from zero; we began from a negative point. However, we are reconstructing Abia and building strong foundations,” he remarked.
Barr. Ken Ahia (SAN), a leader among Labour Party stakeholders in Isuikwuato, praised Governor Otti’s noticeable improvements in the region and affirmed their steadfast support for his re-election in 2027.
Hon. Johnson further described Governor Otti as a “leader with a true commitment to transformation,” declaring that Isuikwuato has become a Labour Party stronghold and advising potential challengers to reconsider their campaigns.
Isuikwuato’s Mayor, Hon. Chinedu Ekeke, promised the Governor ongoing support, stating that his legacy is already in the making.
“Your contributions will be remembered for years to come, even after eight years,” he asserted.
Hon. Ikechukwu Uwanna, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, praised Governor Otti’s administration for its reliable payment of salaries and pensions, deeming him a leader with genuine compassion.
Additionally, Hon. Felix Onwuka, Leader of the Isuikwuato Legislative Council, lauded the Governor’s efforts and guaranteed that the people of Isuikwuato would robustly support his bid for a second term.
