ABIA STATE GOVERNMENT BEGINS CLEARING ACCESS ROAD FOR NSULU AIRPORT PROJECT
The Abia State Government has commenced the clearing of the access road leading to the runway for the Abia Airport Nsulu, sparking jubilation among host communities.
During a visit to the site at Umuala Nsulu, Isiala Ngwa North, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Pastor Caleb Ajagba, reaffirmed the commitment of Governor Alex Otti’s administration to delivering the project in collaboration with the federal government. He emphasized that contrary to earlier misinformation, the landowners and the host communities are fully in support of the airport project.
Pastor Ajagba commended the host communities for their cooperation and assured them that the government has already begun compensating landowners. He also urged contractors to work closely with the locals, ensuring transparency and community participation.
The Special Assistant to the Governor on Land and Housing, who also serves as the Project Coordinator for the Abia Airport Project, described the clearing of the access road as a significant milestone. He stated that the process would enable soil testing and other necessary investigations at the runway, with the clearing expected to be completed within the next week.
The leader of the Government Land Owners Forum, Rt. Hon. Uzor Azubuike, expressed gratitude to Governor Otti for reducing the land acquisition size from 1,800 hectares to 1,000 hectares in response to community concerns. Other stakeholders, including Barr. Andrew Obinna Ijenri, praised the government’s sincerity and commitment to due process in land acquisition and compensation.
Youths and women from Nsulu communities, including their leaders, expressed excitement over the progress of the project and pledged to support and protect the ongoing work. The manager of Craneburg Construction Company, Seba El-Nemer, also thanked the governor and the Nsulu community for their cooperation and assured them of quality project delivery while engaging skilled and unskilled workers from the host communities.
The commencement of the access road clearing has reinforced the administration’s dedication to infrastructure development, with community members celebrating the realization of a long-awaited project.
