MINISTRY OF SPORTS AND YOUTH DEVELOPMENT PAYS COURTESY VISIT TO OBINGWA COUNCIL BOSS

As part of its efforts to promote grassroots sports development and foster community engagement, the Ministry of Sports and Youth Development in Umuahia, Abia State, recently paid a courtesy visit to the Obingwa Local Government Council Chairman, Hon. Maxwell Chinweikpe Nwadike today Thursday 22nd November, 2024.

The delegation, led by Chief Nwaigwe Cyril Chibuike, Permanent Secretary for Youths and Sports, was warmly received by the Deputy Chairman, Hon. Destiny Chukwurah Isiguzo PhD, at the council’s headquarters.

During the visit, the Permanent Secretary informed the council about the upcoming Community Sports Competition, scheduled for December 7, 2024. The competition, initiated by Dr. Alex Otti, aims to foster peace, unity, and love among communities, as well as provide a platform for talent discovery.

The Council Chairman , Represented by the Deputy Chairman, expressed his enthusiasm for the ministry’s sports development program, which he believes can generate income for institutions and participants. He assured the delegation that Obingwa Local Government would fully participate in the competition, leveraging its abundant talent.

The council also expressed its willingness to collaborate with the ministry to develop sports in the local government area. According to the Deputy Chairman, the council is committed to providing the necessary support to ensure the success of the competition and the development of sports in Obingwa.

The visit was attended by various officials, including Mrs. Ijeoma Ogbonna, Youth Mobilization Advocacy and Training; Mr. Imo Uche, Planning Research Statistics; and Mr. Michael Chigbu, HOD Youth Empowerment.

Other dignitaries present at the meeting included Mr. Chukwuemeka Iheanacho, General Secretary, Abia State Football Referee Council; Mr. Ibekwe Patrick, Youth Development Officer.

The visit marked a significant milestone in the ministry’s efforts to promote sports development at the grassroots level and foster community engagement. It also underscored the council’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote youth development and community empowerment…
