Massive Empowerment: Hon. Amobi Ogah Pledges to Improve the Lives and Welfare of Constituents through Effective Representation

Hon. Amobi Ogah, the representative of Isuikwuato/Umunneochi, has pledged to continuously enhance the lives and welfare of his constituents through effective representation and empowerment initiatives.

He made this commitment during a celebration of his one-year anniversary in office on Saturday at the Onuaku Central School, Uturu, where he distributed various items to his constituents, including cars, mini buses, tricycles, motorcycles, sewing machines, grinding machines, hairdressing equipment, bags of rice, fertilizer, mini pickup trucks, generators, and lawn mowers.

Ogah emphasized his dedication to his social contract with the community, which he believes has been remarkably successful since he began serving in the House of Representatives. He expressed, “When I took office, I promised myself to leave a significant mark. The history of prosperity and dedication to public service is the benchmark for which I was granted my mandate to serve the people of Isuikwuato, Umunneochi, and Abia State.”

He added, “My aim is to provide trustworthy leadership while being a beacon of hope and effective service for my constituents. It is vital to remember that a lawmaker’s primary responsibility is to create laws that ensure good governance. Therefore, the expectations we face from our constituents should be viewed through this lens.”

While acknowledging that parliamentarians do not have all the resources to meet every demand, Ogah noted that he works tirelessly to lobby the Federal Government and utilize personal resources to address urgent community needs. Over the past 15 months, he has fulfilled his promise of delivering democratic benefits to his constituents and has initiated pivotal development projects, including efforts to restore safety within the region. This began with his first motion addressing violence and kidnapping, leading to the establishment of a committee to investigate the issue, which recommended setting up operational measures for increased security.

Under his leadership, infrastructural developments have progressed, including the completion of the Ukwunwangwu market with solar-powered electricity, now regarded as the largest open market in Abia North. In 2024, he facilitated the creation of an access road to the Ulonna North farm settlement to improve the distribution of agricultural products. Plans for additional road constructions throughout the constituency are set to commence soon, alongside solar-powered boreholes being implemented across five zones to alleviate water shortages. Efforts are also underway to install solar-powered street lights throughout the constituency and to enhance safety in educational environments like Absu International Secondary School.

In health initiatives, Ogah reported renovations to the Isuikwuato general hospital, equipping it with solar power for continuous lighting and upgraded medical equipment, while also securing approval to convert the neglected Achara general hospital into a federal medical center. Progress includes developing a mother and child hospital in Mbalano and constructing a modern hospital in Laokpa.

In agriculture, he has provided superior palm seedlings to local farmers, while in education, he has awarded 22 full scholarships to students and is constructing classrooms in Nneato and Onuaku Uturu Isuikwuato, in addition to helping cover exam fees for underprivileged students to support their futures.

As chair of the House Committee on HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria, Ogah expressed pride in the strides made to enhance healthcare for his constituents. This event was attended by various dignitaries, including members of the Labor Party, local government representatives, and the Attorney General of Abia State.
