**COURTESY VISIT BY THE ELDERS’ COUNCIL OF ZLP OBINGWA LGA**
On Friday, November 16, 2024, the Elders Council visited the Executive Chairman of Obingwa LGA, Hon. Maxwell Chinweikpe Nwadike, to extend their congratulations.
During the visit, Amb. Emma Amalaha introduced council members to the chairman, explaining that each ward should have two representatives and that any wards currently lacking members will address this in the future.
Dr. C.C. Okwuonu expressed their purpose for the visit: to celebrate the chairman’s recent victory and ZLP’s success in the recent local government elections held by ABSIEC. He emphasized the need for collaboration to enhance the well-being of Obingwa and highlighted the importance of improving the local government’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), urging the chairman to prevent any unauthorized expenditures that could deplete the funds.
Engr. Chekwa Isiakpu reminded the chairman that his responsibilities extend beyond one ward to encompass the entire Local Government Area, and he should strive for excellence given Obingwa’s size as the largest LG in the state. He pledged that the Elders Council would act as a “Think Tank and Advisory Committee,” helping the chairman remember critical matters he might overlook due to his busy schedule. He noted that effective governance hinges on maintaining rural roads, markets, and providing agricultural resources and infrastructure. The council concluded their meeting with prayers for the chairman’s success.
In response, Hon. Maxwell Chinweikpe Nwadike expressed gratitude for their visit and welcomed their insights. He felt honored by their presence and committed to valuing their advice. He perceived his election as a divine calling and pledged not to let down God, himself, or the people of Obingwa. He promised to learn from any mistakes and welcomed constructive criticism. His motivation to enter politics stemmed from his observations during his travels, where he noticed effective governance practices he hopes to implement in Obingwa. He aims to facilitate positive change and shares a similar vision with Governor Alex Chioma Otti, seeing him as a political partner regardless of party affiliation.
