*ABIA PDP CHAIRMANSHIP: AS ‘ISHI BU MBA’ VOLUNTEER TO BEAR THE BURDEN.*

Around 2011, the Ohafia community went agog. The women were dancing from pillar to post and the men were ready for action to seize the much awaited opportunity. Bikers offered free ride, from Ebem to neighbouring communities. Barr. Olugu Ugba had declared for the position of chairmanship under the then rulling party; ‘PDP’. For many in Ohafia, it was the perfect opportunity to express gratitude to a man who has gone out of his way to make life better for many across divide. But the party stroke, – deciding that another flags the party’s ticket for the chairmanship election. In view of Barr. Olugu’s widespread acceptance and political mechaniary, it was believed that the action and his expected reaction would lead to a major crack within the party in the zone, but ‘Ishi bu Mba’ remained, and was at the forefront of aiding the success of the election in PDP’s favour. Those who wishes to understand about sacrifice, selflessness and commitment to a goal must study Barr. Olugu’s political precedence.
At a time where politicians explore nuisancy and blackmail to climb the ladder, Barr. Olugu’s character has remain consistent. On integrity, he has been with the party at every fora in near two decades now having always placed the interest of the party above personal or regional interest and has the antecedents and moral standing to be the leader of a viable opposition party.
On stability; it has always been public knowledge that while some persons are in politics for what they could gain, Barr. Olugu’s political philosophy has always been centered around good governance, youth inclusiveness and women empowerment. Some say that ‘Ishi bu Mba’ has given the PDP more than what they have given to him. But we all know Barr. Olugu as an independent minded politician who is coming into the race on his competency and track record.
On Education, Barr. Olugu has always been a forerunner right from his days at the Boys secondary school, Asaga, while also acquiring his bachelor of arts degree from the Lagos State University, in 2000. Due to his ambition to be a defender of the downtrodden, Chief. Olugu acquired LLB from the faculty of Law, Ghana and went on to conclude at the Ghana law school. Barr. Olugu’s impeccable academic background, oratory prowess, and ability to pay attention to details further equips him for success at the chairmanship position.
Many might want to ask why would Barr. Olugu Ugba now choose to steer a PDP ship that is at it’s lowest state?. But that is what ‘Ishi bu Mba’ does, – a nurturer of projects and bearer of burdens. His candidacy for the chairmanship position injects more energy into the PDP and give them the hope to dream once again, and the courage to dare. And as many who have seen the PDP as suitable vehicle to good governance are unanimous in their prayers; “May Olugu Kalu Ugba succeed”.
