PANDEMIC PREVENTION FEE: “FOR POSTERITY SAKE, MADUFORO YOUTH MOVEMENT TOTALLY CONDENMS THIS IMPOSITION
The leadership of the Maduforo Youth Movement has received with disapproval the official memo directing students’ of Abia State University Uturu (ABSU) to pay an audacious fee of fifteen thousand naira for one of the most ridiculous reasons ever.
Having been bombarded by calls and messages seeking our position on this insensitive and unfavourable policy, we have after critical evaluation of the situation made the following resolutions;
(1) That the negative effect of Covid-19 and subsequent #ENDSARS protest is still biting hard amongst families across the state and Nation at large, making the price of goods high and cost of living difficult. Additional tasking of students at this point in time would be insensitive to the plight of the people whom are still struggling to feed well.
(2) That the Maduforo Youth Movement condemns in totality the alleged 2.5 million naira received by the Comr. John Nwakanma led ABSU Student Union government, describing it as a sell out to the students’ and Youth course. Stating that the rational for the establishment of student Union government is the struggle towards protecting students’ welfare and rights.
(3) That the Maduforo Youth Movement urges the governor Okezie Ikpeazu administration to as always consider the harsh economy of the day, and direct the management of the Abia state University to suspend such anti-students’ policy as it is ill timed and ill conceived.
(4) That the Maduforo Youth Movement calls on the Students’ community in ABSU and Abia at large to remain calm as their cries and agitations have been heard loud and clear, which we would further channel to the relevant authorities.
Evidently, injustice has never been balanced in any scale of measurement. As ABSU students’ grumble, we stand shoulder to shoulder with them as a youth movement. As silence in an unjust society is a crime.
