Landslide Disaster NEMA Partners Abia law maker, Distributes Relief Materials worth over 80 Million naira.

The national emergency Management Agency, NEMA and their Abia state counterpart SEMA in partnership with the Senator representing Abia central Senatorial district, Senator T A Orji CON, has today the 28 August 2020,flag off the distribution of relief materials to communities affected by the flood and landslide Disaster.

The occasion was graced by the NEMA coordinator, owerri operations office, the secretary to the state government, the executive secretary, SEMA and the representative of Senator T A Orji CON, Hon ifeanyi Umere and the receiving communities, represented by their leader’s.
According to the Outlook, 102 local government areas, in 28 States of Nigeria, fall with the highly probable flood risk areas, while 275 LGAs, in the 36 states of the federation, including the FCT fall within the moderately flood risk areas. Abia state is one of the 28 states in the federation that had been declared flood ref alert
In his remark, the NEMA codinator, thanked to the SEMA and Abia state government for their support to the activities of NEMA in the state. He equally appreciated appreciated the Distinguish Senator T A orji CON, for forwarding a highly passionate worded letter to NEMA Abuja, requesting for the distribution of relief materials to communities worst affected by the flood and landslide Disaster.
The executive secretary SEMA and the Abia SSG respectively, thanked both the NEMA and Senator T A orji CON for coming to the aid of persons and communities affected by the flood and landslide Disaster and assure the NEMA, of the state readiness to partner and provide all that is necessary to ensure that Abians, continue to benefit from the federal government of Nigeria.

The representative of the the Distinguish Senator T A Orji CON, Hon ifeanyi Umere, in his remark thanked the Abia state government, ably led Dr Victor okezie Ikpeazu PhD, for ensuring that SEMA receives all support needed to effectively respond to natural disasters in collobaration with NEMA.

He equally reminded, the affected communities that their decision to elect Senator T A Orji CON, has yielded the desire result as evident in his passionately and highly worded letter to NEMA Abuja, to provide the relief materials which is being flagged off today to the glory of God. He finally, assured the affected communities and the entire Abia central Senatorial district, that Distinguish Senator T A Orji CON will continue to provide adequate representation at the Red chamber.
The Communities affected by the disaster are, Umuokom Ikwuano LGA, Umunkpeyi Nvosi Isiala Ngwa South LGA, Amibo Ubakala Umuahia south LGA and Amaeke Ibeku Umuahia North LGA. The relief materials which be directly distributed to persons affected by the disaster will commence on Monday 31 August 2020.
Meanwhile the Abia state emergency Management Agency (SEMA), has acknowledge the receipt of the following relief materials on Friday 14th to Saturday 22nd August 2020;
525 bags of rice (12.5kg)
525 bags of beans (12.5kg)
525 bags of garri (12.5kg)
53 kegs of vegetable oil (20liters)
180 bags of iodized salt
350 cartons of minime noodles
87 cartons of time tomatoes
58 cartons of seasoning
1000 pieces of foam mattresses
1000 pieces of blankets
1000 pieces of mosquito nets
1000 pieces of nylon mats
50 cartons of detergents
1500 bags of Cement
1000 bundles of zinc
215 bags of 3 inches nail
430 packets of zinc nail
1500 pieces of ceiling board.
The high point of the occasion was the official flag off, of the distribution of the relief materials to communities. Chief Mrs Nneoma Alozie a community leader, on behalf of the benefiting communities, thanked NEMA, SEMA and Senator T A orji CON, for coming to their aid by providing the Relief Materials and assured them that the materials will be given directly to the registered affected persons and pledge their unalloyed support to the federal and state government.
