George Floyd Laid To Rest In Houston (Photos)

George Floyd laid to rest Tuesday in his hometown of Houston after a private funeral, two weeks after his death in Minneapolis set off hundreds of protests against racism and police brutality worldwide.

Flowers and mementos piled at the front doors of the Fountain of Praise church in Houston, Texas, hours before the funeral service was scheduled to begin late Tuesday morning.

Floyd’s friends and family were seen pouring in to the church for the service, as well as well-known figures like civil rights activist Rev. Al Sharpton, Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo and Houston Texans player J.J. Watt, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Sharpton will reportedly give the eulogy at the private service, and presumed Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden is expected to give a message to mourners via a prerecorded video.

Floyd will be buried next to his mother, “Cissy,” at Houston Memorial Gardens in Pearland, Texas, just outside of Houston.
